Key

I have never had any intention of trying to do a My Little Pony ribbon guide. When I ID accessories, it is
important to me to be as accurate as possible, and I think it would be virtually impossible to correctly identify
the vast majority of pony ribbons without actually having the ponies MIP and opening them up. There are just too
many ribbons with slight variations in shade, and they discolor or fade too much over time. Some ponies were
even released with more than one color of ribbon.

However, there are a few distinctive pony ribbons that I think can be accurately identified. I also have a few
"regular" ribbons I know for sure came with particular ponies, and I figured it couldn't hurt to post them. So the
following is in no way intended to be a comprehensive list of MLP ribbons; it is just the information I do have
about ribbons that I feel confident is accurate.

Unfortunately, it is often difficult, if not impossible, to see the color of a ribbon with a MIP pony. For this
reason, it is much harder to get an accurate idea of what color ribbon the pony came with than to figure out
the pony's brush or comb (which is hard enough). So the key I use for determining how certain I am that a
particular pony came with a particular ribbon is a little different than for brushes and combs:

  • bolded name: I feel confident that the pony came with this shade of ribbon because I  received the pony
MIP or have done at least 2 of the following: seen a photo of the pony MIP that included a clear view of
the ribbon, received the ribbon with the loose pony, or found the shade identified by a reliable accessory
    website
    *
  • unbolded name: I think the pony probably came with this ribbon, but I am not completely confident
because I only did 1 of the above things
  • name followed by a ?: I have reason to think the pony might have come with this shade of ribbon, but I don't
have sufficient evidence to know for certain
  • names followed by a *: I received the ribbon with the MIP pony

*Reliable accessory websites are those that specialize in a particular kind of pony or accessory, such as the
The Complete Princess Accessory Guide or Sea Pony Utopia. Such websites may not be perfect, but they contain
the most accurate information about a kind of pony or accessory available online. Dream Valley and the My
Little Pony Collector's
website are good resources and I have used them for ribbon information, since often such
information is not available anywhere else. But their information on accessories is frequently wrong and so
information taken from those sources if of questionable accuracy.

    unknown

The brown My Pretty Pony came with 5 ribbons (according to her box). Since almost all the
MPP ribbons I have ever received have been in bad condition, I'm not sure what most of
them were supposed to look like originally. The above are my best guesses.

A pink and (possibly) a yellow My Pretty Pony were also released, but I have never owned
either of these ponies so I have no reliable knowledge about their ribbons.

The Brush 'n Grow ribbons are distinctive because they are longer and thicker than regular pony ribbons. Each
Brush 'n Grow pony came with two identical ribbons.

Metallic

Metallic ribbons came with the Flutter and Summer Wing ponies.

According to TCPAG, Princess Sparkle came with an aqua or pink ribbon. However, I received a dark aqua ribbon
with a Princess Sparkle. This came from someone selling her childhood collection who had all the original
princess ponies and none from the second year. So I think it most likely did come with Princess Sparkle. I think
the ribbon may be the same shade as the one that came with Princess Misty, but since I have never had Misty's
ribbon, I don't know for certain.

Some MIP Mail Order Sparkle ponies did NOT come with a brush/comb and ribbon.

The Flutter pony ribbons are thicker than the Princess pony ribbons.
